IIT Roorkee’s Startup Expo 2022 To Celebrate Its Foundation Day

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) recently conducted a Startup Expo 2022 in honour of the institution’s 175th founding anniversary. Students, teachers, startups, and more than 100 business people from IIT Roorkee took part in the event.

The innovation ecosystem at IIT Roorkee has helped more than 125 startups. The IIT added in a statement that in addition to students and professors, outsiders were given help for their firms’ incubation.

50 entrepreneurs displayed their goods and innovations at the Startup Expo in the disciplines of AI-ML, drone technology, robotics, health sciences, agriculture, the environment, the energy sector, and e-commerce, among others.

The concept for the tournament had a focus on defence. It stated that the goal was to act as a conduit for communication between the founders and numerous stakeholders, so fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial culture.

Startup Expo also featured booths featuring commemorative coins and stamps produced to mark 175 years.

In addition to Colonel Virbhadra Singh Rawat, the Defense Coordinator for the government of Uttarakhand, and Shambhu Sharma, Head of Operations, OPTEL, the event was officially opened by Kailash Kumar Pathak, Director, DFTM DRDO.

Four startups from distinct industries each received the Best Startup award at the event. Indigenous Energy Pvt. Ltd., Cypher, Ballice Smart Devices, and Super Good Nano Pvt. Ltd. were the prizewinners. The following notable startups took part in Startup Expo 2022:

RavenEye Geospatial Tech Limited: 

RAVENEYE GEOSPATIAL PVT LTD was established by IIT researchers as part of TIDES, IIT Roorkee (Startup India Program by Government of India). In order to make India self-sufficient in this area, it was intended to lessen the dominance of foreign businesses in the country’s geospatial market. The company created drones so that farmers could evenly and cheaply spray chemicals on their crops, saving them both money and time.

DTown Robotics Private Ltd.: 

It is a deep tech startup based in Uttarakhand, India. The company works on designing and developing unmanned aerial/ ground solutions for Defence and Agricultural applications. It also works on the development of customized robotics and drone solutions, including hardware, software, and analytics solutions. They aim to provide advanced technologies to people who are serving the nation 24X7.

Indi Energy:

With years of experience creating energy storage technologies including sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, etc., Indi Energy is a startup energy storage company from IIT Roorkee. The startup develops and markets sodium ion (Na-ion) batteries and the technology that underpins them.

Perovskite Innovations Pvt. Ltd: 

The company creates next-generation X-ray detectors for X-ray imaging based on perovskite materials. By incorporating transparent solar photovoltaic panels into the structure of buildings and using transparent perovskite solar cells, it also emphasises on building energy efficiency.

The institute also hosted a different pitching session for fresh startup concepts. The panel members took note of three of these proposals made by Jagdish Neduri, Chaudhary Mohammad Tariq, and Gajanan Gitte. At the IIT Roorkee Tinkering Lab, Pahul Singh Sawhney and Kunal Shah presented the two most promising concepts and received pre-incubation support.

In order to improve the startup environment in the country and fulfil India’s pledge to Atmanirbhar Bharat, a panel discussion on high-tech and deep-tech topics was organised, according to IIT Roorkee.
