EdTech Acquisition: Scaler Buys eLearning Startup for $50 Million

Scaler, an ed-tech business located in India, has purchased an eLearning startup platform -AppliedRoots for $50 million in order to improve the former’s data science, AI, and machine learning services.

Scaler is a company that focuses on upskilling college students and tech professionals, and it is backed by Sequoia Capital India and Tiger Global. Over 1,000 tech leaders and subject matter experts who work with companies like Google, Facebook, Intuit, Microsoft, and Amazon teach users on the platform.

AppliedRoots, which was founded by Srikanth Varma Chekuri, Murali Krishna Varri, Naveen Krishnakanth Bade, Brahma Reddy, Srinivas Reddy, and Satish Atcha, has serviced over 40,000 students in the last four years. It offers diploma programs in topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and coding.

All six of AppliedRoots’ co-founders will join Scaler and lead various projects as part of the agreement. The majority of the AppliedRoots team will work in Scaler’s data science and machine learning verticals. Some members of the team will also work on the Scaler Topics content vertical, which is a curated interactive place for aspiring software professionals to learn technical skills.

In the second half of the year, the AppliedRoots team will spearhead some additional Scaler activities. Scaler has made three acquisitions since 2021, including Coding Minutes and Coding Elements. Scaler has a market capitalization of $710 million dollars.
